Highland Pacific Golf Driving Range Announcement

This winter has brought with it severe climate conditions as La Nina has been forcefully unmerciful. Record rain fall, snow and freezing conditions have caused delays in play as well as negatively impacting the driving range. The driving range at Highland Pacific Golf is a small area of only half an acre. Over the past two seasons there has been a tremendous increase in people practicing at the range resulting in a high frequency of collecting balls with our picking machine on this small half acre of land. This, in combination with wet conditions, have caused severe damage to the turf on the range. Due to this our ability to collect golf balls is limited and we have to make changes to our operation to be able to keep the driving range open. Starting this Friday, March 4th, 2022 we will implement the following plan:

  1. Reduce the operating hours of the range. The operating hours of the HP driving range will be 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. for the month of March except for Friday night in which case we will be open until 8:00 p.m.
  2. Remove every second hitting mat to reduce the volume of balls being hit into the field of play.
  • Add 10, 000 older golf balls to reduce the amount of picking until April 1st when we exchange the current lot of driving range balls with brand new driving range balls.

This plan will immediately help us keep the driving range open and accomplish the following:

a.) Help our staff to hand pick the driving range each day until conditions dry up enough to allow for machine picking.

b.) Reduce the volume of balls being hit into the field of play which will reduce the need for picking during the day and allowing the turf to heal.

c.) Increase our stock of range balls to be hit reducing the need for constant picking during the day achieving the same above result.

This is a manageable short term solution that will get us into dry conditions with the goal to returning to normal levels of operation by April 1st.

Our management and staff would like to thank all of our customers for their patience and support during these restrictions on the driving range. We look forward to serving you to the best of our ability until things return to normal. Thank you in advance, as well, for your kindness towards our front line staff as they continue to make Highland Pacific Golf Victoria’s friendliest place to play and practice.

A small area, high volume leading to high frequency picking rate and record wet climate conditions have negatively impacted the driving range.
